KUCHING: The stretch from Mile 10 to Mile 15 of the Kuching-Serian Road is currently at 83 per cent completion, revealed Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said although there was a delay in the dual-carriage road project, works were progressing well as all issues related to utility providers have been settled.

In a site visit yesterday, Fadillah pointed out that the contractor – Wellfield Services Sdn Bhd – has a lot of catching up to do.

“Although (the project) is behind schedule, we are confident that it will be fully completed this June.

“By then, the dual-carriage road project can be fully used by traffic,” he told reporters, while pointing out that the RM84.5 million-project was originally scheduled for completion in April this year.

Fadillah added that the project was awarded on an open tender-basis, and that it included the replacement of five bridges along the stretch.

“There is still plenty to do to improve the safety aspect, like putting blinkers and reflectors along the road. My advice to motorists is to take extra precaution when driving along this stretch of road.”
