THE upgrading of the road from Kampung Kupang to the junction of Jalan Bajau, Saratok and the construction of a bridge connecting Saratok and Kampung Kupang have been approved under the second rolling plan of the 11th Malaysia Plan.

Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi is waiting for the decision of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) on whether both projects can be executed in four packages.

He was responding to Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz (BN-Kalaka) on the latest development of the proposed project.

To a supplementary question, Julaihi said the road would cost about RM32 million to build and upgrade.

The first package involves the upgrading of a 9km road from Kampung Kupang to Saratok while the second package involves the construction of a bridge over Sungai Krian.

The third package is the construction of an excess road to the bridge (5km) and the proposal to upgrade the 11km Jalan Bajau. The fourth package is the upgrading of the road from Kampung Kupang to Jalan Pusat (6km).
