KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing led a 17-member delegation from the state to visit an engineering and consultancy from AECOM Melbourne in Australia.

Masing, who is also Minister for Infrastructure Development and Transportation, said he was impressed with Aecom, which presented case studies of projects in Melbourne and how meticulous planning and stakeholders’ consultation were taken into the planning and development of port and road projects, especially in areas which are environmentally sensitive such as Ramsar (wetland) sites, migratory bird habitats and native flora and fauna areas.

Amongst the projects highlighted by Aecom were the channel deepening of Port Phillip Bay, future development of Port of Hastings and the development of Peninsula Link road, whereby the firm highlighted on the challenges faced, the approaches taken and the “best practices” adopted by benchmarking against other international standards. These case studies undertaken by Aecom were all sited in the State of Victoria.
